About this tool

Created by Dr Basil Suresh and Dr Victoria Ngai (ST1 ophthalmology trainees). We hope this tool is a helpful companion for your OST1 application journey. It mirrors the official evidence folder criteria published by NHS England.

  • Open a segment to record evidence. Some items score once, some score per item, and some are graded bands where only your best project counts.
  • Hold and circle to browse. Hold down a segment and, without lifting your finger, circle around the dial to cycle through the domains. Let go to open the one you are on.
  • One piece of evidence, one domain. Evidence normally cannot be counted twice — a PGCert in Education belongs under Education and Teaching or under Qualifications, not both. Repeats of the same kind of achievement only score again if you can describe what was additionally attained.
  • Your entries are saved in this browser only, so clearing site data will erase them and they will not follow you to another device. If you create an account then a copy of your evidence entries — the ticks, counts and notes (and nothing else) — is synced for you and can be accessed anywhere. You can delete that copy and the account at any time.

A planning aid, not an official calculator. Always check the current official criteria and Oriel before you submit.

Key dates

Taken from the published national recruitment timetable. Anything shown as “date to be announced” has not been published yet. Always confirm against Oriel and the recruitment guidance.

    Save your folder

Your folder is saved locally in this browser on this device. Creating an account will sync data so that you can access it across devices and prevent loss of progress from a cleared cache, or Safari clearing site data on its own.

Only your evidence entries are stored — the ticks, counts and notes on these pages, with the time each was last changed, and nothing else. You can delete the account and everything in it at any time, from this panel.
